5 Life Lessons from blogging
If I have to say one thing I appreciate about being a blogger, it would be the lessons I've picked on the blogging journey. It has not been an easy ride but it has definitely been worth it!
Change is the only constant thing: I've often heard this quote but I never really experienced "constant change" till I became a blogger. I've had to change a lot of things about the blog a couple of
times even when I did not want to but I've come to realize that change is okay, without change I can't get better or move higher. Growth comes with change and though it might be uncomfortable at first, it would get definitely be worth it in the end.

Although Some changes might and would deliver a low blow but you must set yourself up in a way that you would be ready to get right back on your feet no matter what the world throws at you.
Consistency is hard: Yes! Extremely hard But only if you see it that way. My brain hardly ever rests[I don't think this is a good thing] I'm the queen of multi-tasking and I'm also a perfectionist. So even if I have a deadline for something, if its not yet over the top perfect I ditch being consistent till I'm sure its perfect. Being a blogger has taught me that although consistency is hard, it's necessary in the journey of not just blogging but life and taking baby steps is the way forward. Whatever your goal is, ensure you start small and build consistency as you grow. That is what I'm doing right now with the blog. By God's grace, I would start writing posts in advance so I can take my time to make all necessary edits and corrections before the scheduled date. .
There's no hard and fast rule: In as much as consistency is necessary, there's no hard and fast rule to life. It's okay to have a plan and a schedule but its also okay to go with the flow occasionally. When something no longer works for me, I don't hesitate to change it. I think I've changed my blog layout not less than three times. If you're not feeling something anymore try another and keep trying till you find what does and maintain that rhythm.
Value Over views: Be so focused on adding value to those around you that you care less about what people would say about you. Starting out as a blogger can be very nerve wracking. When I started out blogging I was so distracted by the number of page views I got per post I considered quitting so many times.
With anything you're doing in life, you have to understand that not everyone would like your work but someone needs you. “Each of us, famous or infamous, is a role model for somebody, and if we aren't, we should behave as though we are -- cheerful, kind, loving, courteous.- Maya Angelou. Choose to add value no matter who may or may not be watching
Find your Niche-As a blogger, "Niching is very important" and so it is with life. Trying to be Jack or Jack-Lynn of all trades would burn you out faster than you can imagine. "Choose one thing and become a master of it. Choose a second thing and become a master of that". - Justine Musk.

Live your truth
In other words, be yourself.
As a blogger, it's very easy to get distracted by comparing yourself to other bloggers. I saw a quote sometime last week, I'm not exactly sure where and I'm not exactly sure of the words but the message it was trying to pass across was that we should learn to be original, that way the only person you can compare yourself with is YOU. You would never feel like you're in a competition with anybody if you just do your own thing!
Whatever is worth doing, is worth doing well. [a.k.a Always put in your best!]
I do not make money from my blog, but that doesn't mean I should be laid back about it. I don't just come up with a blog post, then post and go away. That is not what this is about for me, I would always choose quality over quantity. I put in so much work to write and edit my blog posts that you would think someone is paying me to do this because I would rather not post at all than post an incomplete post [this is a good and bad thing but like I wrote earlier, I'm working on writing and preparing posts in advance by God's grace].
This is something I love to do and I'd rather not do it at all than not do it to the best of my ability.

Wow, great lessons indeed. I started blogging in May this year so I'm a newbie in this business. Adding to yours, I've been discouraged several times but one thing that kept me going was deep passion. Another lesson I have learnt is not to compare myself with other bloggers cus even the Bible tells us that those who do that are not wise. Thanks so much for sharing
ReplyDeletePassion really is key
DeleteThank you!
Good lessons here.
ReplyDeleteFor me, I have learned in recent days that there is still so much I have to learn. This in its way has humbled me and made me understand how limited I really am.
This is a great lesson

DeleteIts good to take breaks occasionally especially when something [blogging in this case] starts to feel like a chore. So you can come back refreshed with new ideas.
