Continuing in Prayer

Don’t burn out; keep yourselves fueled and aflame. Be alert servants of the Master, cheerfully expectant. Don’t quit in hard times; pray all the harder. Help needy Christians; be inventive in hospitality. - Romans 12:12-13
Ever felt like there is something you need to do, you know you're meant to do it, everything around you keeps reminding you about it, but then you still do not do it. For me lately, it's been praying.

Every time I read a Bible verse, there is something included in it about the need to pray and the importance of prayer, so it's not like I don't know that I'm meant to pray or how important prayer is. I even know that the devil tries to stop us from praying because he knows the power of prayer. I think about how I used to pray fervently in the past and how I can see some of the fruits of it even now but still, I haven't been able to get myself to pray.

But right now, I'm on a Bus and I see a notification from my Bible app and that reminds me that I still haven't read my devotional for the day, which I do and as usual, it says something about prayer. And at that moment, I feel the Holy Spirit asking me why I never feel like praying and lose concentration and I answer saying it takes a lot of work and energy and he tells me but it's just communication, it's just talking to me. It doesn't have to be 20 minutes of speaking in tongues, it could just be 'Good morning HolySpirit, this is what my day is going to be like or at least, this is what I want it to be like, but you know best so just take control of it all' and at the end of the day, just like with any friend, you tell him about your day. And as I type this now, I'm reminded of how I used to do this a while back and how much I enjoyed it. It's really beautiful.

Plus in retrospect, when I think bout my very simple prayers 'God please I want wifi on the bus', 'my tooth hurts, please make me feel better', they actually get answered. And I'm convinced that God really just looks at our heart, not the pitch of our voice or the length of the prayer.

Oh and I read this passage today that I found beautiful. It's asks God to give us "Rejoicing in hope; patience in tribulation; continuing in prayer"

  2. This is so true. Sometimes we feel it has to be a special time, so we forget to do it because we are waiting for when we are free and have much energy to pray fervently.

  5. Hi Fasuyi,

This was well-written. I agree, when one understands that prayer is simply a conversation with God that doesn't need ceremony or drama, it becomes easier to speak to God.

    Thank you for sharing. :-)
