Day 2: Love gives a clean slate

Hello Lovelies, This is Day 2 of #31daysofLovinglikeJesus and like I said in previous posts, each day would tell a different story and challenge you to a Love task, Today Tomilola of STYLELOVELETTERS is sharing on Love and forgiveness.

My boyfriend really hurt me one time. And I remember that even before he apologized, my Spirit told me I had to forgive. So when he finally apologized, I told him I had forgiven him. We would be having a good time, laughing and gisting and I would remember how he hurt me and immediately give him the cold shoulder. Sometimes, I would do this for a couple of days. Sometimes, I would be like "remember that time that you.....? Well, I'm not over it and I certainly haven't forgotten"

Then one day as I was giving him the cold shoulder, the Holy Spirit asked me "would you want God to forgive you, the way you have forgiven him?". Then it occurred to me love does not keep record of wrongs (1 Corinthians 13:5).

When God forgives me, He gives me a clean slate which is why I can ask for forgiveness of my sins one minute and the next minute pour out my heart desires to God. Because, I know I have a clean slate.

Love requires us to give people a clean slate. To forgive even before forgiveness is asked for, to forget the hurt, to start all over again. It is hard, but love requires us to forgive people the way God forgives us. If I am truly loving my neighbor as I love myself, I would give them a clean slate because when I mess up and repent, I'd like God to give me a clean slate.

"Bear with each other and forgive one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you (Colossians 3:13)"

[TOMILOLA]

Day 2: Love gives a clean slate.
The world would be a better place if people can just learn to stop carrying hurt around and Let go!
1.) Today think of someone/people that hurt you/ upset you and just let go. You don't have to physically say "I've forgiven you" to him/her [but if you can, by all means do so] . Just pray to God to help you let go and have the conviction in your heart that you have forgiven whoever for whatever they might have done. [Jesus forgave, even those that killed Him. See Luke 23:24]

2.) It's also important that you give yourself a clean slate. Cut yourself some slack. We all mess up sometimes and if God would forgive you, why won't you forgive yourself?

P.S Jesus loved His enemies and people that hurt Him regardless,  but we don't see him chilling with them for loves sake. He loved them and prayed for them from afar, He forgave them without even saying hello. Some situations require that we do the same because above all you have to guard your heart.

  1. Wisdom! Words of wisdom Tomi and Kunmi! I constantly need to remind myself, especially on the level that God relates to me on forgiveness and return that on the same clean slate as Tomi pointed out.

Thanks for sharing lades, looking forward to reading more stories

  3. You never know you haven't forgiven someone till you see them again and then the hurt or pain they caused you takes you back to that time. That's when you really know you still have them in mind and only God's love can heal the hurt and help us forgive the person. I love the title and the story. Clean slate. It summarizes the whole point of forgiveness.

    Lovely once again.
